Self Watering Container Gardening

Self Watering Container Gardening

Get the Results without All the Work

Self watering container gardening can take the pressure off you when it comes to remembering to water your garden. A garden that waters itself really is no work at all.

You may need to check in from time to time, but this is the easiest way to garden. If you start with plant varieties that are naturally self-sufficient anyway, you practically guarantee your garden will thrive.

Learning about the self watering process and why it is beneficial to your container garden will help you see why this is such a great option, especially in winter. You may even want to start using it for your own garden.

Why Use a Self Watering System?

Basically, you use it because it's easy. The convenience of not having to devote time each day to not only watering your plants but to figuring out how much to water them is quite a boon.

Additionally, if you have quite a large container garden, you may have amassed a sizable number of containers that you would have to water on a daily basis. Instead of going from container to container every day, you can utilize a self watering system and take the pressure off yourself.

You can have all the benefits of a container garden without having to take care of one of the biggest maintenance concerns that usually goes along with this type of garden. You get the results without all the work.

How Does Self Watering Work?

From the plant end of the equation, this is a very interesting question. You probably know that the absorption of water occurs through a plant's roots and travels upward through the plant. Nutrients from the soil travel up with the water to nourish the plant.

This process is halted when there is no water to be pulled upwards through the plant. When you water a plant once a day or with any frequency then the process is begun and then halted on a regular basis.

With a self watering system, however, there is no interruption in this process. The water is always there for the plant to utilize so the plant can grow to its full potential. It never has to wait for its next water meal so there is no separation between the need for more water and the plant receiving that needed water.
