Growing Flowers in Pots

Colorful Container Gardening

Growing flowers is a rewarding hobby. Do you ever wish you could have some of the color that flowers bring, but realize you lack the space or time to take care of a garden? Whatever. There is no reason to deprive yourself!

Many people can grow beautiful flowers in pots, and you'll find that these lovely indoor beauties can do a lot to brighten up your life. Whether you live without a yard or find yourself in an apartment, you'll see that growing flowers in pots is a great way to bring some of the outdoors home with you.

When you're looking to grow plants indoors, you'll find it's best to start with grown plants from nurseries. You may be tempted to grow plants from seeds, and while this is possible, it is generally understood that plants grown indoors tend to be weaker due to the fact that they need so much more natural light when they're young.

Start with a grown plant from the nursery and you won't have to wait to get a gorgeous bloom. This is a great way to make sure that you have a healthy plant as well.

Think about what containers you want to use when growing flowers. Pots for flowers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so make sure that you get one that will fit in with your home and be easy to work with.

Are you going to hang your pot from the ceiling, or do you want to use a window box? Look around for ceramic pots or wooden boxes, which will ensure that the flowers can drain well. Terra cotta is often used for indoor plants, as well. By making sure that you have the right kind of box, you will find that it is much easier to keep your plants healthy.

Also keep in mind that you should think about the soil. Don't just go out and scoop up some dirt, especially if you live in the city, where there's a lot of pollution. Get a high-quality potting soil that has vermiculite added, and if possible, include some fertilizer as well, as it will give your plant a great deal more in the way of nutrition.

When you have everything set up, all you need to do is figure out what flowers you want to grow. There are plenty that will thrive indoors as well as outdoors.

When you want to keep things small, you can start with geraniums, which are excellent flowers to start out with. You'll find that they are perfect for beginners and are very hardy. You'll also find that petunias, which come in a wide variety of colors, are perfect for hanging baskets, while marigolds are also very tough and will bloom in the most adverse of situations.
